Welcome to the BMW Club's OFFICIAL Irish Boreen website, along the top of this page you will find
links to Booking forms, Photo albums and information on past and upcoming Boreen
events.
Closer to the August Bank Holiday weekend you will find, a Garmin file (GPS Waypoint)
giving you the start point of the 2010 Boreen Run.
The BMW Club's Boreen Runs have always been centered around areas of amazing natural beauty, over the years the run
has brought participants through some of the most scenic areas in Ireland. While riders can expect to be in the saddle for
a lot of both days apart from Lunch there are also short breaks either at scenic areas with toilet facilities or near a cafe
for a fast cuppa, these comforts stops will allow you to strech your legs. The Irish Boreen Run is not an Off-Road run, it uses
the roads less travelled and all these roads are tarmac. The roads are easily seen as "yellow roads" on Ordinance Survey
(Discovery Series) Maps as they meander through the Irish countryside. Definition of Boreen (from the Irish word bóithrín, meaning a small road) is an Irish term for a narrow, rough, rural road.
It is also occasionally used in names of narrow country roads with a strip of grass running through the middle of it.
The 2010 Boreen run is being held this year in the Cork area.
We decided to do a West Cork run on Sat July 31st and East Cork on Aug.1st. The theme for the Boreen run this year is Coastal scenery . Our country may be financially in trouble but we will see part of the biggest asset to this country which is our beautiful coastline
(1)Accommodation.
We will be staying at The Carrigaline Court Hotel (4*).
It is situated in the centre of the village and 15 minutes ride from the Jack Lynch Tunnel. It is also only 10 minutes from Ringaskiddy Ferry terminal which services the Cork-Swansea route. It is the recommended Ferry for our UK friends coming over to join us. The ferry arrives in at 07.30 hrs in the morning. Apart from the attractive price the hotel gave us this was one of the main reasons we choose this location. It is hoped that the riders who are resident in the Hotel will book in on Sat morning first and leave their luggage there to avoid hauling it all day.
